Part 3 – BAM Glocal

dollar-behind-cityscapeWhere are the “business as mission” initiatives among refugees who are being resettled in the USA?

I have more questions than answers.

See REPORTS on refugees entering the USA, current through August 2016:

Do local agencies that help resettle refugees keep databases of their skills? Can BAM-entrepreneurs access and utilize that data?

Understanding HOME CULTURE.
“The classic barrier in Canada is being told you don’t have enough Canadian experience – it means you don’t have the soft skills or cultural understanding to work here.”

Above quote supports what I said in a previous blog – that there is little cross-cultural education for refugees . . .
. . . While concurrently there is little offered that helps typical Americans engage
other-culture people who are moving into their neighborhoods.

There is a huge difference between obtaining practical skills for living in a place – how to go to the bank, how to ride the bus, where to get medical care, what are the laws – and “cultural commonsense,” which resides invisibly several layers beneath the day-to-day surface. This includes awareness of Americans act individually or boldly, understanding American self-reliance and sense of freedom, knowing how to show respect to whom or not, sensing prejudices and rights, etcetera, etcetera.

What BAM initiatives could specifically help refugees?

open-for-businessYou may have seen the 2012 report* that says immigrants start business at higher rates than native-born Americans.

Immigrants not refugees
(Refugees have fled here.)

Google-search of “Refugee BAM” produces one item about “business as mission.”
An amazing item!

A Syrian follower of Jesus in Brazil who is thinking BAM:

Yet this Google-search: No results found for “Glocal Business as mission”.

No devaluing of Christian entrepreneurs who are salt and light every day.
My question is about business start-ups to advance the gospel among new refugees?

How will this work in the USA?

Is there such thing as Glocal BAM?

Refugee Glocal BAM.
